Vintage Friday . It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is an animated television special, based on the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz. It was the third Peanuts special (and first Halloween special) to be produced and animated by Bill Meléndez. Its initial broadcast took place on October 27, 1966, on CBS. I was surprised to learn that the book came afterwards in 1967 and that the illustrations come from the tv special.

My friend Mary found an old a copy of the book at a yard sale so in the spirit of Vintage Friday, and with Halloween just around the corner, I borrowed the book and ventured out to Ferme Proulx to set-up a few photos in their pumpkin patch. Then, as the sun was setting just before bedtime, I visited a friend’s daughter who kindly posed for a few photos holding the book just so. Thanks Carys.

I think I’ll be tuning in to watch Charlie Brown this year - maybe you will too.
