Lorenzo in Florence, Italy

Imagine windy cobblestone streets lined with tall buildings with large glass windows encased in heavy metal frames, you’ll have a good sense of where the artists create in Florence.

I met Lorenzo in his studio with my friends Mara of Neither Snow and Betti of & Co. His sweet disposition and welcoming nature poured out of the doors when he opened them and welcomed us in to see his work. Born and raised in Italy, Lorenzo lived in New York City as an artist for many years and still travels back from time-to-time to show his work. I would say though that being back in Italy is likely better for the soul and the creativity and he seems overjoyed to be there. I can’t imagine a studio quite like this anywhere but in Europe. Nestled in the amongst the smell of bread, the sound of clinking glasses and the bustle of Florence only steps away, I could certainly see creating in this space. Using a mixture of mediums including plaster and white paint, Lorenzo creates lasting pieces of art connecting found objects in a simple pallet inspired by the love of, his wife Simona.
